Thoughts on Syria:
Mattis says no further strikes are planned unless more chemical weapons are used. Reports indicate 30 tomahawk missiles (compared to 58 in 2017), and they suggest 1/3 were shot down. Trump did not inform the Russians, and in response they issued another ominous threat.
All in all I'm glad it's not a full scale war. If it's just bombing countries that break international laws, I'm fine with it.
Also, sorry, but I trust Trump more than I do Assad. For all we know, Putin told Assad to do it just because he knew it would hurt Trump's base. Us lowly citizens don't get to know these things, that's just how it works.
I do find it ironic that many among us, who perhaps jokingly long for the good old days of monarchy and strong executive power, are unwilling to trust President Trump with military matters.
I'm not a fan of the US military having this global presence, and I'm not a fan of our country being the de facto enforcer of international laws. However, Trump did not create the American Empire. He is simply its steward for a few years. This appears to be a measured approach, and a mild one compared to HRC's handling of Libya and Egypt.
We'll see how things develop. So long as this does not end with a full invasion, regime change, and occupation, I will continue to support Trump.
