For those who have Issues with the Historical Accuracy of the Odyssey. First. About Helen of Troy, She wasn't born. She was hatched. From an egg.
Her father was a swan. And her mother may have been a goose at the time.
But this wasn't an ORDINARY swan, of course. It was the god Zeus, who was only PRETENDING to be a swan, to fool Leda, the Queen of Sparta, into letting him stay next to her while she slept.
Well, poor Leda ended up laying two eggs. In one egg were two girls, Helen and Clytemnestra, the future Queen (and murderer) of King Agamemnon of Mycenae. In the other egg were two boys, the future great warriors, Castor and Pollux.
There you go. Historical accuracy.

OK. HOLD ON. I haven't finished yet.
Turns out that Leda might have really been Helen's ADOPTED mother.
There are a variety of myths and legends out there, and according to some of them, Zeus did NOT r*pe LEDA, but the Goddess Nemesis. She turned herself into a variety of critters to escape Zeus. But when she turned into a goose, he turned into a swan and caught up with her.
And THEN a shepherd boy found HER eggs, and turned them over to Queen Leda, and she hatched and raised the kids as her own.
And THAT could make Helen being BLACK "Historically accurate".
HOW, you ask?

Well, Nemesis was the daughter of Nyx (Night). Nemesis didn't have a father. Nyx mothered a whole bunch of kids all by herself. There was Moros (doom), Eris (strife), Hypnos (sleep), Apate (deceit), Thanatos (death), the Oneiroi (dreams), Momos (blame), Oizys (misery) and the Moirai (the Fates).
Nemesis represented karmic justice.
Another one of Nyx's children was Ker (murder) who is referred to in the myths as "Black Ker". So all of the siblings, and Nyx (Night) herself, most likely were Black, as well.
Making the casting of Helen in THIS movie most appropriate. Certainly more appropriate that Matt Damon, who is not even Greek.
And there you go. All you nice MAGA folks can now relax and enjoy the danged movie.

Oh. You're STILL not happy. WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM NOW?
It's the MANOSPHERE thing, you say? Traditional Moral Values, before all this WOKE stuff came about?
Um. Dear. You need to go to your local museum and look at the pottery. Really.
Yes, The Gods of the day certainly set the Moral Standards. Men were men. When they weren't getting their jollies by being swans, instead. Or bulls. Those gods were pretty frisky. And inventive. And the human men weren't far behind.
When you read the old plays based on the ancient legends, there was a whole lot of gender swapping going on. Really. Along with everything else.
Those old plays were the blockbuster movies of their day.
And the women's parts were actually played by men.
And... I hate to break this to you. Take a deep breath, and sit down for this. Matt Damon's stunt double was a WOMAN. All those scenes fighting with the giants? Those were played by tall actors, and they needed short actors playing the Greeks for the battle sequences. Damon says his stunt double, a woman, "had the greatest arms I've ever seen."

Oh by the way. We should mention this.
The Battle of Troy took place about 1200 BCE. We think. Perhaps. If it happened at all. It might be all fiction, based on only legends. There are no written historical records of it.
But starting around 500 BCE, the Greeks started keeping EXCELLENT written historical records.
You know about the 300 Spartans who fought the Persians (yes, Iran) at the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BCE? Well, I hate to burst your bubble, but there was a long standing tradition of mature, experienced soldiers mentoring younger recruits. Close relationships that often became intimate. Sorry. That sort of thing is mentioned in actual historical accounts of the time.
And to take that a step further, there was ANOTHER fierce and heroic account of a different army of 300 - the Sacred Army of Thebes, immortalized about a century later for the Battle of Leuctra in 371 BCE, in which the Thebans BEAT the Spartans.
The Theban commanders, influenced by philosophers like Plato, believed that committed couples, pairs of lovers, would fight far more fiercely alongside their partners, so as not to bring shame upon themselves in front of them, and would defend them to the death. The Sacred Army of Thebes was made up of 150 of these homosexual couples.
Sorry. Pete Hegseth may want to think twice before amping our soldiers up on testosterone. Yes, he might very well make them as fierce and wild and randy as the legendary ancient Greeks. But, in every way. Maybe that is an unintended consequence. Or maybe not.

Well, since I am breaking your brain today, here is one more juicy tidbit about the ancient world for you.
All over the Mediterranean ancient world, (and also in many, MANY cultures beyond) royal succession was MATRILINEAL. It went from woman to woman. Men ruled the earth, but women WERE the earth. When you married the Queen, you married the LAND. That gave you the right to rule it as King.
That is why the war was fought over Helen. It wasn't her beauty. She WAS Sparta. Without her, King Menelaus did not have a legitimate claim to Sparta, Prince Paris of Troy did.
Menelaus HAD to get her back.
And the same was true for Odysseus. All those suitors descended on Ithaca when they thought he was dead, not because they all desired Penelope, but because they all wanted to rule Ithaca. Come on, yes, she was the daughter of a Nymph, so she was still lovely, but she HAD been waiting around for him for 20 years.
THAT, BTW, is why all the Pharoahs of Egypt married their sisters. Not only to keep the land and the power for themselves, but also because they refused to give it away to the sons of other lands.
Annnnnd... that is why in the oldest fairy tales, princes are always looking for princesses to rescue from dragons. THEY inherited the kingdom from marrying HER.
The King's OWN sons were out of luck. They had to go find OTHER princesses to marry. This did not change until the 11th Century in Europe. Yes, kingdoms only started going to the oldest sons THEN.
Only ten centuries ago.
So, sorry MAGA man. It has been a nice experiment.
But maybe it is time for us to take the Earth back. You have made rather a sorry mess of it.
Go watch a movie. Or better yet, read a history book. They're pretty good. But don't take those ancient myths seriously. You could hurt yourself.
