With any strategy to contain the scandal now in tatters, and circumstantial evidence overwhelming almost all of the Greek prime minister's repeated denials, the corrosive effect of powerful spyware technology even on developed democracies is on full display. On November 5 the Documento newspaper published the first 35 names of what it claims is the complete list of Predator targets in Greece. Every Sunday the list is updated and now includes sitting ministers, the inner circle of a powerful shipping and media tycoon, a popular comedian, friends of the prime minister's wife, senior military officials and the country's most respected newspaper publisher. The list goes on.
